Vote for the Bigot, it’s important!

In 1985, soon after the start of his 3rd term as Governor of Louisiana, Edwin W. Edwards, or EWE as he was affectionally/sarcastically known, was acquitted of mail fraud, obstruction of justice, and bribery. He was defeated in 1988.

In 1991, EWE was running for his 4th term as governor. A jungle primary is where all candidates from all parties run against each other at once and the top 2 face each other in the general. That year, the vote split such that EWE, a veteran indictee, the pioneer of Teflon in jurisprudence, and David Duke, the Grand Wizard of the KKK, faced each other in a run-off. Someone (supposedly not the campaign) put out a bumper sticker that read: “Vote for the crook. . .It’s important!”

First, a disclaimer: I am not associated with politics in any way other than my one vote. I don’t answer polls, I don’t have signs or bumper stickers and I don’t talk politics unsolicited. I do have something to say.

Hate by bigots and racists is kept on the down low, sometimes referred to as ‘dog whistles. Systemic racism is so subtle some people don’t even know they are doing it. But wow, hate for the haters, and Donald Trump in particular, is impossible to avoid! It’s everywhere! In entertainment, the media, education, you name it. The ‘Hate Coalition’ is a powerful force. Given the history of hate, is it a good idea?

Stalin didn’t hate the farmers in the Ukraine, he just wanted their farms. He pushed the peasants to hate the farmers so they couldn’t resist while they were carted off to the gulags. Food shortages followed and while Stalin got his farms and never missed a meal, millions of peasants ate their pets. Stalin didn’t intend to starve the peasants, he thought he could do a better job than the farmers. When he failed, there were no consequences for the dictator, and he proceeded to rule the Soviet Union for two decades.

As many on the left frantically hate Donald Trump, there is a radical movement determined to seize power and change the rules so they never lose it again. In other words, no consequences. Haters may agree with the radical policies the left wants to implement but hope they get it right! No consequences mean there will be continuous experiments with our lives. If they don’t work out, they will just try something else and we will be helpless to do anything about it. This militant movement smothers moderate, reasonable voices on the left who (I know) still exist, but just don’t want to be canceled for straying from the hard line. We have serious and immediate problems to work out. Public schools are failing our kids and in the next 10 years, technology will make our lives better and safer and will eliminate millions of jobs. We need rational voices on the left as we work out these challenges in an efficient but compassionate way. The radical left political-media cabal who want to “Burn this MF down” must be dismantled The “Hate Coalition” needs to give way to the “Heart-Brain Coalition” so the safest, least racist, the “most prosperous for the most people” country on the planet can continue to work for all of us for years to come.

One thing is for sure, Trump will be gone in 4 years if he wins. He is definitely not the crook this time around because if he had as much as an overdue parking ticket, we would know about it. You might even question his bigot credentials since polls show him surging among minorities. Be that as it may, if you still think he’s a bigot, that’s ok, just vote for the bigot (or stay home) because it’s, well, important.

BTW, when it was reported that half the jury stole towels from the hotel in which they were sequestered during the trial, EWE remarked that he had, in fact, been judged by a jury of his peers!
